Welcome to the Royal Tournament of 2007!This year, RoyalCon is proud to present the first edition of the Royal Tournament. Eight of Quebec's Grandeur Nature (Live Action Roleplaying) organizations will come together in an evening tournament to determine the champion of Quebec! The Royal Tournament will take place Saturday evening, September 15th from 7:00pm to 11:30 pm (approximately) and will include numerous activities. As well as several spectacular combats, we will have an introductory workshop on traditional fencing, a mini-tournament of combat for beginners, a make-up artist, a costume contest, reenactments and a live scenario that will permit all who are interested to discover what Grandeur Nature is all about. Each group will select its champion by whatever method it chooses; however, being a combat tournament, martial skills will be necessary. The tournament rules are available in PDF format. The clubs that will be present are:
StoryThe Queen of the Kingdom of XXX has begun the fifth year of her reign and as dictated by tradition she must now find her new husband and produce an heir. According to the rules of the kingdom, the selection process takes the form of the Royal Tournament. Eight suitors for the hand of the Queen are selected from the nobility and each of them must select a champion from a neighbouring kingdom to represent them in a series of combats. The noble whose representative ermerges victorious will win the hand of the queen. He will present his champion with a princely reward (and the promise of future alliances). But all is not sunshine and roses in the Kingdom of XXX. There are rumours of pacts between members of the kingdom and certain evil forces. And when the tournament begins, events occur that suggest these may not be rumours at all...
Evening Schedule
Scenario: "The Future of the Kingdom"Could the rumours of corruption and the whispers of an alliance between certain citizens and the forces of evil be true? If not, who is instigating them and why would they spread such falsehoods? Is there some hidden motive? And what if they are true? Who would profit from such an alliance and to what end? And what is their connection with the Tournament? For all who are interested, there will be a scenario for beginners that will take place during the evening of the Royal Tournament. Participants can choose to take the role of a member of the security force ordered to guard the queen and keep the peace at the tournament or the role of a scoundrel whose mission is... secret for now. The scenario will be played during the two intervals between combat rounds and no costume or equipment is necessary. Mystery and intrigue will be the defining themes of the scenario. A prize will be awarded to the best guard and the best scoundrel.
Traditional Fencing Introductory Workshop by Les DuellistesLes Duellistes is a traditional fencing school teaching a range of combat arts covering the techniques of different weapons - long sword, sword and buckler, hast, dagger, wrestling - which were used in Western Europe during the historical periods preceding the introduction of firearms. During the Royal Tournament, Les Duellistes will present a beginner’s training workshop in the arts of these traditional styles. Yan Robidoux and Patrick de Marchi, two of the school's teachers, will demonstrate, with commentary and explanation, the techniques of the longsword, ?, and unarmed combat. The demonstration will last around 30 minutes with the possibility of a second presentation if there is enough demand.
Calimacil Mini-TournamentCalimacil is a Quebec company that designs and manufactures foam weapons used by the Grandeur Nature organizations in Quebec. During RoyalCon, Calimacil will offer a mini-tournament of simple elimination combat. The winner of each battle is the first to get three touches on his or her opponent. Sign-up will take place on site. Cost is $2.00 or free with the purchase of a Calimacil weapon. The winner will be rewarded with one of the weapons used during the combat. All the weapons will be provided by Calimacil. Participants are welcome to bring their own weapons. All weapons and combinations are permitted but only Calimacil shields may be used. All arms must be used in their traditional manner. Improper use will incur disqualification.
Costume ContestThe costume contest will take place during entire evening of the Royal Tournament. While the Tournament is going on, three judges (a vendor, a guest and a member of the RoyalCon team) will mingle among the participants and take photos to determine which is the best male and female costume. Only participants in complete costume will be considered. Complete rules for the costume contests are available in PDF formatsitemap |
